Mobit Telecom Ltd. (Mobit) - Coordinator

Mobit Telecom, with an R&D team obtaining tens of years of accumulated experience in wireless connectivity, satellite communications, radio navigation, RF and antennas, developed the world’s first satellite Personal Location Beacon (PLB) in form of a wrist watch – SAT406. This development was possible through some innovative patents. Mobit’s goal is to make Search & Rescue (SAR) beacons popular devices, affordable and usable by every mariner, aviator, and outdoor enthusiast.

Mobit’s team is comprised of experienced professionals, covering both technological and operational aspects of SAR. The leading R&D people are: CEO Daniel Katz, CTO and s/w architect Dr. Ohad Barak, Antenna designer Prof. Ely Levine, RF designer Miki Reznik.

Daniel Keren, partner in Mobit, provides a unique contribution to Mobit’s activities, regarding operational and user aspects of SAR services and products. Daniel Keren is one of Israel’s leading extreme sportsmen, participated in many expeditions around the world, including Antarctica, the North Pole, Mount Everest and the Sahara desert.

Amit Waener, ex-commander of Israel’s national Search and Rescue unit, is for many years advising to Mobit on operational aspects of SAR.

Thales Alenia Space (TAS)

Thales Alenia Space is the European leader in satellite systems and a major player in orbital infrastructures. Thales Alenia Space is a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Finmeccanica (33%). Thales Alenia Space and Telespazio embody the two groups’ “Space Alliance”.

Thales Alenia Space sets the global standard in solutions for space telecom, radar and optical Earth observation, defence and security, navigation and science. The company, which achieved revenues of Euro 2 billion in 2013, has a total of 7,200 employees located in 11 industrial sites in France, Italy, Spain, Belgium and Germany. Thales Alenia Space is at the heart of the most high-performance satellite technologies in both civil and defense sectors.

Thales Alenia Space is prime contractor for EGNOS (European Geostationary Navigation Overlay System), which was delivered to ESA mid-2005 and is now operational. Thales Alenia Space defined the overall architecture of the Galileo system on behalf of the European Union and the satellite architecture for ESA. Thales Alenia Space has been a driving partner in Galileo since the outset, in charge of the ground segment as well as the satellite integration and providing critical equipment and subsystems (IOV phase).

Thales Alenia Space is involved in the Cospas Sarsat Search and rescue system since several decades.  Thales teams have developed all the SARP (Search And Rescue Payload) instruments on-board SARSAT satellites (LEOSAR), in CNES (French Space Agency) contracts, which highlight a long involvement in Search-And-Rescue. In the frame of GALILEO, Thales Alenia Space contributes to the development of the SAR capability of GALILEO.

Saphyrion-Logo.jpg

Saphyrion Sagl is a privately owned research and development company specialized in both board level designs and semiconductor, as well as software development. The head office is in Bioggio (near Lugano), in southern Switzerland. The business of Saphyrion is focused on high quality and high value designs both own and bespoke especially in the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) domain. The company has the capability of developing low power RF and base-band processing ASICs with their own firmware, board level products, as well as special techniques such as antenna beam-forming. In the frame of an ESA contract, the company developed, in cooperation with RUAG Space, its first RF down-conversion chip-set for space borne applications consisting of SY1007 (configurable RF down-converter) and SY1017C (radiation hardened AD, DA and interface ASIC) and in 2010 closed the qualification against ESA ESCC9000 standards. Since their space qualification these 2 devices are in the company’s product catalogue and are being used by the European space primes for Earth Observation missions.

Thanks to its legacy in the former activities and contracts, Saphyrion has a demonstrated capability to design, develop and productize high reliability IC solutions together with their respective evaluation boards. This initial capability has then been extended and currently spans also to board-level designs and applications, such as different communications, signal processing and sensor platforms able to handle signals at high data transfer rate, multi-channel GNSS RF receiver boards and FPGA development boards for fast prototyping activities.
